New transformer installed and energised as part of critical network upgrade in Bournemouth
Aureos has successfully completed the installation and energisation of a new transformer at the Alderney Primary Substation project in Bournemouth, marking a major milestone in the delivery of its Grid Supply Point (GSP) Contract for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).
Working in collaboration with project partners Delton Power and Groundwork Utilities, the project team removed the existing transformer and bund before installing a brand-new transformer and containment bund. The upgrade represents a critical enhancement to support increased network capacity.
From the outset, the project presented significant complexity, particularly around design coordination and site constraints. As with many infrastructure upgrades on live networks, the works required careful planning, precise execution and close collaboration across multiple teams to effectively manage risks and maintain continuity of supply.
The successful installation and energisation of the new transformer highlights the expertise and teamwork demonstrated throughout the project. Multiple disciplines worked together to navigate challenges and deliver the works efficiently, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and protecting people, partners and the communities served by the network.
