Aureos is progressing a major programme to refurbish ten bridges along the M40. This will be a key and used by thousands of drivers every day.
The bridges are located across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire, and have shown signs of corrosion following years of exposure to rain, wind and road spray. The benefits of Aureos work will aim to strengthen those damaged areas and leave a long-term benefit.
The work started June 2025 and since then, our teams have been on site every weekday night between 10pm to 4:30am. With up to 30 specialists involved, each bridge approximately takes ten weeks to complete. Work starts with detailed inspections of beams, bearings and hard to reach areas, using cherry pickers and scissor lifts during road closures.
Where suitable, grit blasting will aim to speed up preparation while still protecting the environment. The steelwork will then be protected with a three-coat system to restore it to its near new condition. Aureos carefully manages temperature changes that can affect the drying process, maintaining safe and efficient progress.
