Aureos Acquires Western Electric to Strengthen Overhead Line Capability

Aureos has acquired Western Electric, a specialist overhead power line construction, repair and maintenance contractor operating across the south-east of England.
The acquisition brings Western Electric’s expertise and skilled team into Aureos Energy, strengthening the services we provide to customers and supporting the UK’s evolving energy infrastructure needs.
Western Electric delivers low-voltage, 11kV and 33kV overhead line works, including wood pole replacements, network reinforcement projects, cable diversions and the ongoing maintenance of critical electricity infrastructure.
Adding this specialist capability strengthens Aureos’ position in the UK electricity distribution market and gives customers access to a broader, more experienced delivery team. It also enhances our ability to provide end-to-end energy infrastructure services, from design through to construction and delivery.
With Western Electric joining Aureos, our directly employed overhead line workforce will grow to around 25 people. This will create one of the largest directly employed distribution overhead line teams supporting UK Power Networks in the Eastern region.
We plan to grow the team to around 40 line personnel by 2030 through recruitment, training and apprenticeships. New trainee programmes will give recruits the opportunity to work alongside experienced colleagues and develop the skills needed for a long-term career in the overhead power line industry.
The acquisition reflects Aureos’ focus on building complementary capabilities that help customers maintain, reinforce and develop essential energy networks across the UK.
Western Electric’s established experience in the Eastern region will complement Aureos’s wider capabilities, supporting reliable delivery for UK Power Networks and creating further opportunities to invest in specialist skills.
